Challenge 4 Results

Hello, and welcome to results night! It's been a while since I've typed one of these... the schedule has been wacky lately but hopefully we'll be getting back on track now! :)

By now, you're probably becoming pretty familiar with the format. But just in case you're not, it's critique time. :D

Quick note: As the competition keeps going the critiques will be getting tougher. Now before you get all in a huff if you don't like your critique, please remember that critiques are just the judges' opinions and our attempt to help you improve. Just because we didn't all adore your set doesn't mean that we don't think that you're awesome. Don't take critiques too seriously. :)

CRITIQUES:
Dott: We told you last week that your sets needed some more personality. I was really hoping to see something great from you this week... but it didn't quite happen. The set is cute, but the photo is cut out way too messily for an album cover. One judge really liked your layout, but as a whole we thought that this needed a lot of work. It's boring and looks like not much time was spent on it.

Speedy: "This album looks like it could come right of a store shelf," said one judge. This set represented your chosen band very well. I loved the symmetry and how well-balanced everything was. Your cover was very creative and had a lot of thought put into it. One judge mentioned that the layout looked a bit cluttered though.

Rachel: Cute set! You had a nice idea and this isn't bad at all. However, a few changes would have taken it from good, to great. One judge thought this looked a little sloppy, and me and another judge thought the artwork you chose was a little off. Had you added some more art that matched the color scheme it would have been better. :)

Bri: This was an awesome idea and the set itself is fabulous. I loved how well you put everything together, and the textures were really nice. One judge said, "The flowers were a cute touch, but she should've moved the 'A FINE FRENZY' so it wasn't jutting off the set like that ever so awkwardly." That's really the only issue we had with this- that piece of text messed up the centering.

Pugzy: A couple of us who are fans of Paramore's music were a little confused by how this could possibly be a cover for one of their CD's. One judge said "Paramore is a rock/punk band. What's up with the cute fluffy stuff?" The band name was also very hard to read. However, this was a cute set and not bad at all. It just didn't fit the band. :)

Shannon: Liked your choice of colors. And one judge complimented you on the album title. But we weren't really into the cartoon-ish theme. The layout seemed a little random, and we thought that a picture of the band somewhere would have really tied things together.

Molly: "The textures, the pictures, the footsteps, everything was perfect!" exclaimed one judge. We all agree. This cover represented the title very well, and it had a lot of thought put into it and looked so realistic! It definitely looked like a real cover. One judge thought that a little more texture was the only thing missing.

Duckie: I loved the colors. I thought they were cute and fun. But one judge hated them. xD As a whole, we thought this set had potential but was a little too plain to be an album cover. Some textures were needed, and maybe softer colors. But this was a very youthful and fun set and I enjoyed it.

Lemon: This set wasn't just an album cover- it was a work of art. Nice job... the textures were beautiful! The other half of the set was a little plain though, it needed a texture or two to keep it from looking unfinished. And a couple of judges weren't crazy about your chosen picture.

Lizzy: Great job! This is a very unique and original album cover, and if I was CD shopping it would definitely catch my attention. However, we all had one problem with it... the writing was hard to read! One judge summed it up. "There are too many textures, and too much going on, you can barely see any of the words."

Doodle: Your sets are always so bright and fun and this week was no exception. One judge adored how cute and playful this was. However, the rest of us were disappointed that more effort wasn't put into it. CD covers are square, and this layout didn't work for that. You should have used more of your white space! :)

Chloe: You're improving a lot. We all liked this set, but agreed on one thing: it was cliche. Like, it's a stereotypical album cover for a band like that. If you had done something really neat and different it would have been better, but this was a nice set anyway!

Izzy: Nice layout! This is a cool idea, but it looks really unfinished. It needs a picture of the band somewhere, and the words aren't very readable down at the bottom. It looks like you rushed through this, which is a shame because you make amazing sets when you take your time.

Jazz: Yay, you're improving a whole bunch! Nice job this week. "I like how she had several pictures of the band and actually set them nicely, so they were like a mosaic," said one judge. However, a CD cover is square, and this wasn't. You could have used more of your white space, and added some more things so the layout and colors didn't look quite so random. Watch your spelling on the title! ;)

This week, we had no drop-outs for the first time. So that means that someone will be leaving us tonight. :( Eliminations are always a pain, but it's something that has to be done. Who will be going home tonight?

Since there are so many of you gals, I'm again going to divide you into groups.

Group 1:

Jazz
Duckie
Bri
Pugzy
Chloe

Group 2:
Speedy

12th place goes to Doodle. Show us something awesome next week.

Which leaves Dott, and Rachel.
Dott, you've been showing us good sets for the past couple of weeks, but we're still waiting to see you do something great. This week your set was uninspired- will you get another chance next week?
Rachel, you've been steadily improving, but still have some things that need work. This week's set had a lot of potential. Will you get another chance next week?

Rachel, you're in 13th place. Don't stay at the bottom. :)

Which means, Dott, I am so sorry to say that you have been eliminated from Girls United's Polyvore Star. Thank you so much for competing with us. We all enjoyed looking at your sets and we're sorry to see you go. Don't be sad though, you did a fabulous job.

Before we go, let's look back at some of Dott's sets, shall we?

Bye Dott, we're going to miss you.
That's all for tonight... now run over to the forum to see your new challenge. :)
