Challenge 1 Results

Welcome to the RESULTS for the first challenge in season 2! This week sure has flown by in a hurry. We only had one contestant drop out which means that 16 fabulous people submitted equally fabulous entries... which you can see here.

To help you improve on your sets, I compile the judges' comments every week into a short critique about your entry. Please don't get upset about the critique... it's only to help you improve and not meant to be taken as an insult. Don't take it too seriously, alright? It's just the opinion of the judges. :)

CRITIQUES:
Dott: We all thought that this was a pretty set. But there were some things that needed work. One judge commented that you needed more items, and I agree. All the items in the front are big and as a result the layout looks messy. We loved the high boots but didn't find your outfit very wearable... and everyone agreed that your set needed some color! However this isn't a bad set, you have a lot of potential. :)

Rachel: Welcome back, gal. I can already see how much you've improved since last season. The outfit is cute and you have some great items and a good idea here. However, the sizing of some items makes them really hard to see... and we think that some color would have been a good idea for you as well. One judge said, "My only concerns are the outfit as a whole looks a little drab, and the accessories don't stand out."

Lizzy: Okay, I loved this. There are some things that need work but the outfit is really great. However, none of us were crazy about the bracelet used as a necklace. It just didn't fit. We all loved the outfit but we thought that it might look a lot better if it was presented better. The items were all really close together, and maybe a pic or two would have given it some more color :)

Speedy: Love your choice of boots! This outfit is really nice... but one judge commented that it was a little too matchy-matchy and that "red accessories would have looked incredible!" I agree... maybe just a little more color would have really made it pop! However, for the most part the layout is lovely and this is a really nice set.

Chloe: We loved your outfit! It's edgy while still being cute. However, all of us had a problem with your presentation. The huge lipstick looks odd taking up the whole left side... and is that a bracelet back there? Some of the items are really hard to see, which is sad because you chose great items.

Stars: Great boots... but where's the dress? It got lost! That's an important part of the set too. We all thought that this had potential, but the outfit is going in so many different directions, with the flowy dress and butterfly, and then the tough leather boots and the hat... it's just a little too much. Try to arrange the items so that we can see more of them. :)

Maggie: The outfit and the color scheme are really cute! However, the outfit needs some more accessories to make it stand out... it looks a little bland. And there are so many different ways you could arrange the items. You don't have to stick them all on one side and find something random to cover up the extra space. Keep working, you have potential!

Shannon: First of all, awesome choice of boots. Some judges thought the outfit was a little over-the-top but you made up for it with a great layout! While it's awkward in a few places [One judge said, "My advice? Fill in more of the white spaces with random fun stuff."] it's a really neat and original idea that was executed well.

Pugzy: This is really cute! Your layout is really nice for the most part, all the items are evenly spaced out and there aren't that many white spaces left. And the color scheme is adorable. However, a lot of us had issues with your outfit. It's too plain... if you had taken some risks with it this cute set would have been even better.

Duckie: Love the sweater. I really do. But we'd like to see the rest of the set too ;) Everything is hiding behind the sweater... which is bad because you chose some really nice items. One judge summed it up by saying, "I love the black, red, gold, and the cheetah print together, very classy! One question is this a dress or a shirt? I think it would have looked better with a great pair of leggings under it."

Bri: This is really cute and arranged really well. But, we were all expecting more from you. It needs a little more color, and the necklace is a good start. You could have added some other complementary accessories and really jazzed up the outfit. "Some gold accessories and a different color boot would have made this outfit a million times better! The back ground is to white, everything kind of blends in; and in this case that's not a good thing," is what one judge had to say.

Izzy: I'm so glad you decided to join us on GUPS this season. Because this is one of the most amazing sets I've seen in a while. All the little touches and everything that went into it... it's just great. However, the judges didn't like a couple of your items... one commented that you could have chosen a different skirt ["the skirt looks a little cheap (totally not fitting the style)"] and one said that the sweater didn't really match the rest of the set.

Doodle: We commend you for taking a risk and using a different kind of boots. It worked really well, and all the color in your set definitely makes it stand out. But... as one judge said, "The layout looks a little cluttered and there are almost too many different colors to work with." We all agreed that some things looked mismatched. But a very cute set nonetheless.

Lemon: This is cute! Nice earthy colors and really cool choice of boots. The lipstick, however... needs to go somewhere else. We all agreed that it didn't fit, and that a different color would have worked better. Some complementary colors would have worked nicely and made this set stand out! And while the layout for the most part is nice, it looks a little off balance. :)

Jazz: The boots are gold, I understand that. But the entire outfit doesn't have to be all gold! You could have added some different colors. You chose nice items but none of them would work together. And the layout leaves a lot to be desired. You had so much more space to use and the cute pair of boots didn't have to be humongous. :)

Molly: We're so glad to have you back for another season! You were one of my favorites last year. And this set, for the most part, shows why. A couple of us thought your items looked out of place but the outfit is very cute and creative. The little background items are a really nice touch!

Everyone is going to get another chance to show us what you've got in the art challenge, challenge 2! You gals will be placed like normal for that challenge, and then we will add up the scores from BOTH challenges to determine who will be eliminated.
